About the data
Exactly what Songview lists, nothing added
Where it comes from
bmiapi reads BMI’s public Songview search at a polite pace. Songview is the registry page; bmiapi returns the names, identifiers, society shares, warnings, and registered publisher contacts it exposes.
BMI Songview public search
Saved answers show the date we pulled them from Songview. A live answer is read from Songview as you wait.
bmiapi is run by Yung Recs. Questions: paul@bmiapi.com.
What we never do
- Enrich the registry with another source.
- Guess a missing writer, publisher, share, or contact.
- Merge different registrations into one record.
- Turn society-level shares into a person-level split.
Repeated performer names
We remove repeated performer names from the readable list. The original list is also included.
dedupe: false keeps the repeated names in the readable list.
How to read an answer
“Saved answer” means bmiapi already has a response and returns it without a new BMI request. “Live lookup” means we asked BMI now and used one live lookup from the daily allowance. A missing share or contact stays missing; bmiapi doesn't guess it.
The registry can change after an answer is saved. When a BMI link is available, open it to verify the source page.
